It had been many years since I last visited Greece, but all the wonderful smells and sights had not changed much when my wife and I spent a week in Athens and a few of the islands last summer. We took in Athens as well as Kifissia a suburb where I spent my childhood living with my mother for over a decade. Many things had changed with time, the streets looked more narrow, lots of new apartment buildings blocking the sunlight, and much more traffic than I remember. I was amazed however that I small shop where I used to go for milk and pastries, was still there! “Varsos”, was still serving up spinach and cheese pies so we had to get one of course.
